Hyundai Elevator announced on the 22nd that it has joined the United Nations (UN) Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).
WEPs, jointly launched in 2010 by the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and UN Women, is the largest women-related initiative with over 9,000 companies and organizations worldwide participating. By joining this initiative, Hyundai Elevator plans to establish a culture of gender equality in the workplace and expand programs to enhance the competitiveness of female employees.
The seven principles of WEPs include establishing high-level leadership for gender equality, respecting human rights and ensuring equal treatment of men and women in the workplace, and guaranteeing health, safety, and welfare for all workers. The company explained that the goal is to foster female leaders.
Joa Jae-cheon, CEO of Hyundai Elevator, said, "With this membership as a starting point, we will strengthen the culture of gender equality within the company and fulfill our responsibilities as a global company based on the enhancement of human rights for all employees. We will also lay the foundation for growth as leaders through women’s empowerment programs."
Hyundai Group is promoting measures to secure a talent pool for women’s empowerment across all its affiliates, including Hyundai Elevator. The women’s leadership program, newly established last year, was attended and encouraged by Chung Eui-sun, Chairperson of Hyundai Group.
