The bid for the Namsan Gondola construction project was unsuccessful.
On the 15th, Seoul City announced that no companies submitted applications by the document submission deadline on the 8th for the pre-qualification (PQ) screening of bidders for the Namsan Gondola construction project, resulting in the bid being voided.
Seoul City believes the lack of bids was due to insufficient project feasibility caused by rising construction costs such as material and labor expenses, as well as the overall downturn in the construction market.
The city is promoting the Namsan Gondola project, which will travel a total of 804 meters from Yejang Park (lower station), located 200 meters from Myeongdong Station, to the summit of Namsan (upper station).
The pre-qualification screening is a system that assesses whether a company is qualified to participate in large-scale construction projects commissioned by the government or other entities. It is used to determine if a company that wins the bid has the capability to carry out the construction.
To address the reasons for the failed bid, the city plans to hold meetings with construction companies and review follow-up measures such as adjusting the project budget based on the findings, and will immediately reannounce the bid.
Additionally, the city intends to complete the selection of qualified candidates for detailed design by July and begin construction in November 2025 to ensure that the overall project proceeds without disruption.
