Scott's Plea... 'Tiger, Thank You for Calling Me'

Host Woods Joins Genesis Invitational as Scott Invited Player, Even Sending a Letter

Adam Scott (Australia)'s sincerity paid off.

Scott's Plea... 'Tiger, Thank You for Calling Me' Adam Scott

He saw the effect of writing a letter to Tiger Woods (USA) to participate in the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational. At a press conference held on the 14th (local time) at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, Scott smiled and said, "Writing a letter to Tiger worked."

Scott's performance on the PGA Tour last year was not very good, so he was not qualified to participate in this tournament, which only allows 70 players. He recalled that the organizers could invite any player and wrote a letter pleading with the tournament host, Woods, to invite him. Woods had the right to invite four players, and he 'self-invited' himself and invited Scott, Gary Woodland, and Will Zalatoris (all from the USA).

It is rare for a player with popularity and skill like Scott to write such a letter. He awkwardly said, "I have played as an invited player in regions like Asia, but I think it has been quite a long time on the PGA Tour." Scott said, "If I play well here, I am ready to do well in any tournament," adding, "I am confident I will do well on this course."

Scott has won this tournament twice. When it was held under the name Nissan Open in 2005, his victory was removed from the official records as the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, but after the tournament name changed to Genesis Invitational in 2020, he became the inaugural champion. Scott was once ranked number one in the world. He has won a total of 14 PGA Tour titles, including the 2013 Masters victory.
