From Sanjeong Lake Park to Ildong Sulfur Hot Spring Complex
Estimated Duration 4 Hours 15 Minutes... Difficulty 'Medium'
The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Pocheon Course 16’ is a 12.7 km section that goes from Sanjeong Lake Park to Sanjeong Lake Sangdong Parking Lot, in front of Gyeonggi Peace Education Training Center, Nangyudaegyo Bridge, Undam Intersection, and Ildong Sulfur Hot Spring Complex. The estimated time required is 4 hours and 15 minutes, and the difficulty level is classified as ‘medium’.
At the starting point, Sanjeong Lake Park, you can stamp the ‘Sanjeong Lake’ stamp. Sanjeong Lake is an artificial lake of about 7,000 pyeong (approximately 23,100 square meters) created in 1925 as an irrigation reservoir. Its name means ‘a lake like a well in the mountains.’ It was designated as a tourist site in 1977. There are leisure spaces, an amusement park, and a sculpture park together.
Leaving Sanjeong Lake with a bittersweet feeling and walking on, you will pass a road with heavy vehicle traffic until you reach the Gyeonggi Peace Education Training Center. A gently sloping uphill path continues from the wide flat land. The altitude gradually rises until Nangyu Pass.
Nangyu Pass is used by those who traverse Gwaneumsan and Sahyangsan Mountains. In the past, the area around the pass was called ‘Irineomi Pass’ because there were many wolf packs. Several military units are also located around Nangyu Pass.
After crossing Nangyu Pass and going down, you will reach the Ildong Sulfur Hot Spring Complex. This place uses hot spring water drawn from 800 meters underground. The hot spring water contains a high amount of sulfur, making it well known as a place frequently visited by people with neuralgia and adult diseases. It is also good to soak your tired body in the hot spring water. The area is surrounded by famous mountains and many golf courses, and a food district famous for ribs and Makgeolli is located nearby.
The arrival stamp at the Ildong Sulfur Hot Spring Complex features a picture of ‘Pocheon Makgeolli.’ Pocheon Makgeolli, brewed with Pocheon’s mountain terrain and clear water, is designated as a traditional liquor of Gyeonggi Province.
