The term "yumocha" (stroller) in the names of stroller storage facilities managed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government has been changed to "yuacha" (child carriage).
On the 14th, according to Lee Sora, Vice Chairperson of the Health and Welfare Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, proportional representation), the Women and Family Policy Office, which is in charge of gender equality tasks in Seoul, reported that the names of stroller storage facilities installed in related facilities were changed and corrected to the more gender-equal term "yuacha" storage facilities.
Last November, during the 321st regular session of the Health and Welfare Committee's administrative audit, Assemblywoman Lee ordered Seoul to use and correct terms according to the gender-equal language dictionary.
According to materials submitted by the Women and Family Policy Office at that time, there were a total of 107 "yuacha" storage facilities (119 including branches) installed in 20 major facilities under the office, all of which were labeled as "yumocha" and were pointed out.
Assemblywoman Lee stated that she received the final change status from the Women and Family Policy Office four times up to this month and confirmed that the names of all 118 storage facilities were finally changed to "yuacha storage facilities."
Assemblywoman Lee said, "Although the expected roles of men and women in parenting have become much more equal than in the past, the terms used by public institutions did not even reflect this reality," adding, "The use of gender-equal language starting from public institutions will be the beginning of a society that respects and cares for each other."
