"Do Not Approach Under Any Circumstances" Fell After Climbing Out of Curiosity... Coast Guard Launches Special Management

Special Safety Management Initiated for Seol Holiday

The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will implement special safety management for tetrapods during the Lunar New Year holiday period.

Changwon Maritime Police announced that, with the increase in visitors to tourist sites and ports/harbors during the Lunar New Year holiday and the expected rise in safety accidents involving anglers and leisure visitors around tetrapods, special safety management will be enforced until the 12th to prevent maritime accidents.

During this period, efforts will focus on ▲guidance on tetrapod fall prevention facilities ▲intensive inspection of management status such as the installation of safety signs ▲strengthened patrols at tetrapod installation sites ▲promotion and education on prohibiting access to tetrapods ▲joint safety management with related organizations such as port/harbor management authorities.

To prevent safety accidents caused by increased personal leisure activities during the holiday, patrols will be conducted meticulously in accident-prone waters and coastal danger zones.

Tetrapods are structures shaped like four horns, designed to prevent coastal damage caused by large waves.

Although these structures are installed on breakwaters or seawalls to weaken the energy of waves, accidents sometimes occur when curiosity leads people to climb onto tetrapods for fishing or photography and fall between the structures.
