Meeting with Wando Police Station, Ordinance Proposal Related to Wando County Council Member Kim Yang-hoon
The Wando County Council in Jeollanam-do passed a partial amendment to the "Wando County Crime Prevention and Autonomous Police Affairs Support Ordinance" on the 26th to support the operation of the ‘112 Handaleumseon’ for rapid dispatch to maintain public order and prevent crime in island areas.
According to the county council on the 31st, the ordinance supporting the operation of the ‘112 Handaleumseon’ was primarily proposed by Councilor Kim Yang-hoon of Wando County. It is known that the necessity was agreed upon during a meeting with Police Chief Kim Gwang-cheol of Wando Police Station in December last year to maintain security in island areas.

Last year, the Wando Police Station faced many difficulties in responding quickly to dangerous situations such as ‘Code 0’ in the island areas under its jurisdiction, as regular passenger ships or vessels did not operate at night.
In particular, although foreign crimes have increased due to the rise in seasonal workers, when incidents occur at night, the local island police stations must dispatch to affiliated islands, but there was no transportation available, making rapid response difficult.
However, with the implementation of the ‘112 Handaleumseon,’ private vessels designated or requested by the Chief of Wando Police Station can now be used to maintain public order, including crime, terrorism, and disasters in the island areas under jurisdiction.
It is reported that Police Chief Kim Gwang-cheol of Wando Police Station presented a plaque of appreciation to Councilor Kim Yang-hoon, who proposed the ordinance for the implementation of the ‘112 Handaleumseon,’ expressing gratitude for maintaining security and advancing police administration in island areas. He stated, “We will do our best to improve related facilities and operate them efficiently so that residents in island areas do not feel insecure as if they are in a security blind spot and can live with peace of mind.”
Additionally, Councilor Kim Yang-hoon of Wando County Council said, “I will continue to carry out sincere legislative activities to resolve inconveniences for island residents, improve living conditions, and ensure that residents can live more safely and conveniently.”
