Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu (center), is visiting Hwayang Market during last year's Lunar New Year holiday and talking with merchants.
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold a 'Prize Giveaway Event' for residents visiting traditional markets from February 1 to 7 in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.
This event, designed to ease the burden of Lunar New Year preparations for residents and revitalize traditional markets that have been sluggish due to high inflation, will be held sequentially at six local traditional markets: Junggok Jeil Market, Yeongdonggyo Market, Hwayang Jeil Market, Sinseong Market, Neungdong-ro Market, and Myeongok Alley Market.
Each traditional market will sell holiday goods at discounted prices during the event period and present prizes such as Onnuri gift certificates to customers who purchase over a certain amount. However, the event period varies by market, and it may end early if prizes run out.
First, Myeongok Alley Market, Junggok Jeil Market, and Sinseong Traditional Market will provide Onnuri gift certificates worth 5,000 won to customers who purchase more than 30,000 won on February 1, 5, and 7, respectively.
Neungdong-ro Market will give gifts such as socks and hand cream to customers who purchase more than 30,000 won starting from February 5.
Additionally, Yeongdonggyo Market and Hwayang Jeil Market will hold various events such as a Garaetteok slicing contest and roulette event participation tickets for customers who bring receipts of purchases over 20,000 won on February 5 and 6, expressing gratitude to residents visiting the traditional markets.
Furthermore, to ensure residents can safely visit traditional markets and prepare for the Lunar New Year, fire and electrical safety inspections of the traditional markets were completed in mid-January.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "This event was prepared to reduce the residents' cost burden and contribute to the revitalization of traditional markets. We hope many residents visit the traditional markets during the event period to share generous hospitality and have a rich and joyful holiday."
Mayor Kim Kyung-ho and district office staff will also visit traditional markets during the Lunar New Year to encourage merchants and help invigorate the markets while shopping for holiday goods.
