The Fate of a 20-Year-Old Who Scammed 12 Million Won by Falsely Claiming "Selling Tickets Cheap"

The Fate of a 20-Year-Old Who Scammed 12 Million Won by Falsely Claiming "Selling Tickets Cheap"

A man in his 20s who deceived dozens of people online by pretending to sell concert tickets and other items, swindling over 10 million won, has been sentenced to prison.

According to the legal community on the 24th, Judge Kim Seon-sook of the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 8 sentenced Lee (29), who was indicted in custody on charges of fraud and embezzlement, to two years in prison. The court stated, "Considering the duration of the crime, the method, and the amount of damage, the nature of the crime is serious," and added, "No compensation has been made to the victims so far." However, the court took into account that Lee showed remorse, had no prior record of similar offenses, and had no family to rely on when deciding the sentence.

Lee posted on online boards such as 'Junggonara' that he was selling various tickets, including amusement park admission tickets, concert tickets, and gift certificates, at prices lower than the actual market value. He received money from those who contacted him after seeing the posts and then disappeared, engaging in fraudulent activities until he was caught by the police. In particular, he lured victims by posting that he would transfer tickets that were already sold out and hard to obtain in the market, and frequently changed his nickname and account number to avoid being tracked.

From April to August of last year, Lee collected a total of about 12.4 million won from 67 people through this method, which was found to have been used for living expenses and other purposes. Additionally, he was charged with embezzlement for arbitrarily using 80,000 won that was mistakenly transferred to his account in April of last year for living expenses. However, Lee has filed an appeal with the court the day before, expressing his dissatisfaction with the verdict.
