National Tax Service "Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Data Submission Omission"
Streamlined Service Reflected from the 20th
The National Tax Service (NTS) launched a simplified service on the 15th that allows users to view income and tax deduction proof documents for year-end tax settlement. However, consumers are experiencing inconvenience as Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance has not submitted data related to automobile insurance. Consumers who have automobile insurance with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance currently cannot check their automobile insurance premium payment details through the simplified service.
An NTS official told Asia Economy in a phone interview on the same day, "Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance missed submitting automobile insurance-related data and is taking swift action," adding, "Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance said they would submit the data today, but it will likely be reflected in the simplified service starting from the 20th." Currently, payment details related to automobile insurance from other insurance companies besides Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance can be checked.
Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance holds an unwavering first place in the automobile insurance market with about a 30% market share. A customer insured with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance said, "I have to submit the simplified documents to my company by the 19th, but since the data will be available from the 20th, it’s a difficult situation," and added, "The Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance customer center is also unreachable by phone."
The NTS advised that, for the time being, customers must directly obtain and submit insurance premium payment receipts through the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance customer center. A Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance representative said, "We are currently investigating the situation through the relevant department."
On the same day around 7:30 p.m., Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance sent a text message to automobile insurance customers apologizing for the issue. A Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance representative stated, "We confirmed that automobile insurance-related data was missing and are taking swift action," and added, "We plan to minimize inconvenience by providing additional guidance such as sending insurance premium payment certificates to individual customers."
