Be Friends with Kim Haerang on KakaoTalk and Get the 'Todeogi' Emoticon

From 2 PM on the 15th, first-come, first-served for 25,000 people

Gimhae City in Gyeongnam will distribute the official character ‘Todeogi’ KakaoTalk emoticons for free to the first 25,000 people starting at 2 PM on the 15th.

According to the city, the emoticons will be given to new subscribers of the KakaoTalk channel from that day and can be used for 30 days after downloading.

Todeogi is Gimhae City's symbolic character confirmed in November last year, representing a duck figure that was called a ‘mysterious bird’ during the Gaya period and symbolized dreams and happiness.

It was created based on a duck-patterned pottery artifact from the Gaya period excavated from the Mangdeok-ri tumulus cluster in Juchon-myeon, Gimhae, and was named Todeogi to signify that it came from the earth (토, 土).

The city announced that to promote Todeogi, the official character and honorary public relations director, in celebration of the Year of Visiting Gimhae, it planned a free emoticon distribution event.

The newly produced Todeogi emoticons consist of 16 types, featuring various expressions and movements of Todeogi against backgrounds symbolizing Gimhae City, such as the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit, Suro King’s Tomb, Bulam Eel, and Gimhae Dwitgogi.

To receive the emoticons, users must open the KakaoTalk app, tap the magnifying glass icon at the top right to open the search window, and search for ‘Gimhae-si’.

Then, among the channel options, find Gimhae-si and tap the yellow ‘Add Channel’ button on the right to subscribe.

A city official said, “We expect this KakaoTalk emoticon distribution event to help widely promote Gimhae City nationwide during this Year of Visiting Gimhae.”

The city plans to prepare various application manuals for the Todeogi character and use them to decorate various parts of the city center, as well as produce Todeogi goods and tourism souvenirs.
