Shohei Ohtani's pet dog 'Decopin' from the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball (MLB) has become a hot topic after being issued a U.S. visa.

On the 11th (local time), major foreign media outlets reported that the U.S. Ambassador to Japan shared a photo on his official social media (SNS) account showing a pet visa being gifted to Ohtani's dog Decopin. It was found that this visa is not an official visa but an event-based visa. Ambassador Rahm Emanuel said that the special event was arranged to celebrate Ohtani's contract with the Dodgers.

Decopin's passport number was inscribed as '000PUP000,' a combination of the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award Ohtani received last season and the word 'puppy,' and the control number read '000GOODBOY000' (Good Boy).

Previously, Ohtani attracted attention by bringing his pet dog during a video interview after winning the American League MVP last year. After signing a 10-year, $700 million (approximately 918.1 billion KRW) contract with the Dodgers, at the press conference, he was asked if he had chosen his pet dog's name as his next destination. Ohtani revealed that his dog's name is 'Decopin.'

As continuous congratulatory events are held for Ohtani, who signed with the Dodgers, attention is also focused on Lee Jung-hoo's pet dog 'Kkao,' who joined the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball. On the 17th of last month, San Francisco posted a slide video of Kkao on the team's official SNS, and Lee Jung-hoo also left a comment in English saying, "Thank you for sharing."

Earlier, Lee Jung-hoo signed a six-year, $113 million (approximately 147.4 billion KRW) contract with San Francisco. Among Asian hitters who have entered the Major Leagues through the posting system, he is the highest-paid. The contract includes a condition allowing him to opt out (regain free agent rights) after playing four years with San Francisco until 2027, which the industry regards as a groundbreaking deal.
