Why did the Labor Attach? of the Philippine Embassy in Korea visit Daesun Shipbuilding?
Daesun Shipbuilding, a leading mid-sized shipyard in Busan, hired 94 Filipino welders by the end of last year to overcome the manpower shortage in the shipbuilding industry.
Through the ‘E-7-3 (Skilled Shipbuilding Worker Visa)’ supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Justice, and the Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Plant Association, Filipino workers have been gradually deployed to Daesun Shipbuilding’s hull work. Among them, 20 workers who arrived at the end of August last year have completed their adaptation period and are now working in the production process.
MA. CELESTE M. VALDERRAMA, Labor Attach? of the Philippine Embassy in Korea, visited Daesun Shipbuilding on the 8th, toured the training course for her country’s welders (at the Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute), the worksite, and living facilities, encouraged the workers, and expressed gratitude to Daesun Shipbuilding.
A welcoming event is being held at Daeseon Chosun for the visit of the Labor Attach? from the Philippine Embassy.
Daesun Shipbuilding selects excellent foreign workers through direct interviews and screening both in Korea and overseas, and after their arrival, continuously provides training to increase job satisfaction and organizational commitment, achieving good results.
The Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute (Director Seo Yong-seok) operates the National Human Resources Development Consortium Industrial Transition Joint Training Center, supported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.
The center provided advanced training for Filipino welders employed at Daesun Shipbuilding to enhance their job competencies in response to industrial transition, including eco-friendly shipbuilding and smart yards.
Daesun Shipbuilding expressed gratitude for the training programs at the Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute, which has the best educational facilities for improving welding skills, and also showed satisfaction with the capabilities of the Filipino workers.
Recently, Daesun Shipbuilding successfully delivered two vessels to SITC and Ace Tankers and is putting great effort into early business normalization.
