The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced on the 11th that Commissioner Oh Yu-kyung conducted a preliminary inspection of safety management at the Anseong Dongwon Home Food logistics center supplying ingredients for the '2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games' and the athletes' village restaurant within High1 Resort in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province.
The Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee and the MFDS have formed and are operating a Food and Beverage Safety Support Headquarters in collaboration with related organizations such as Gangwon Province to manage hygiene and safety at mass catering facilities and restaurants operating at venues hosting the event.
The main inspection items include cleanliness and temperature control of ingredient storage warehouses, food and beverage safety management throughout the entire process from raw materials to serving, operation of food and beverage inspectors, and hygiene education for cooking staff.
During the event, the MFDS and the Organizing Committee plan to conduct ingredient inspections, rapid testing for contamination by food poisoning bacteria, and food poisoning prevention and promotional activities.
Commissioner Oh urged, "To prevent norovirus food poisoning, which frequently occurs in winter, please adhere to personal hygiene management such as hand washing during cooking, and food poisoning prevention rules such as boiling and thoroughly cooking food. We ask for your utmost efforts in food hygiene and safety management to ensure a safe event free from food safety incidents."
