Applied to 'Asukup (AskUp)'

Upstage announced on the 11th that it has applied its self-developed large language model (LLM) 'SOLAR' to KakaoTalk's 'AskUp'.

AskUp is a KakaoTalk chatbot messenger developed by Upstage. Users can ask questions and receive answers on various topics. It offers various artificial intelligence (AI) features such as image generation and optical character recognition (OCR). Users can access the service by adding the AskUp channel on KakaoTalk. Currently, 1.65 million users are utilizing it.

SOLAR is a global representative lightweight large language model (sLLM) with 10.7 billion parameters. It ranked first globally among open LLMs upon its release on Hugging Face. Notably, earlier this month, models developed based on SOLAR swept all top 30 rankings.

Upstage expects that applying SOLAR to AskUp will enhance the usability of the LLM. In internal tests, AskUp with SOLAR provided natural responses with speed surpassing OpenAI's GPT-4 and performance at a similar level.

Upstage has introduced SOLAR in 10% of AskUp conversations and plans to increase this ratio in the future.

Seonghoon Kim, CEO of Upstage, said, "Internal tests of SOLAR showed it surpasses GPT-3.5 and has usability not significantly different from GPT-4, so we applied it to AskUp to make it more useful in daily life. We hope SOLAR will contribute not only to developers but also to making everyone's daily life more efficient."
