Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "Advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology is expected to bring tremendous changes to human life and the global economy and industry," pledging to face the new year with a serious attitude.

In his New Year's address on the 29th, Minister Lee said, "The competition for technological supremacy among countries is intensifying day by day, and technology is becoming the core of national security and the economy."

He particularly noted that major global events next year, such as the U.S. presidential election and the European Union (EU) parliamentary election, will bring significant changes not only in diplomacy and security but also in technology and industry.

Minister Lee added, "All of us at the Ministry of Science and ICT will approach 2024 with a solemn commitment and determination."

Specifically, the Ministry plans to newly promote the 'Super-large AI Flagship Project' to secure a leading position in the super-large AI market, along with fostering talent and pursuing regulatory innovation.

Through this, the goal is to take the initiative in the global AI competition and lead international discussions on AI norms based on the Digital Bill of Rights.

Additionally, Minister Lee announced plans to expand support for global research and development (R&D) and to establish an Aerospace Agency. He also mentioned accelerating quantum computer development by building three quantum fabs capable of conducting cutting-edge quantum research.

He reflected, "The year 2023 was one filled with much attention, marked by successes such as the third launch of Nuriho, the enactment of the National Strategic Technology Development Act, the announcement of the Digital Bill of Rights, and R&D reforms, a year where expectations and concerns intersected."

He concluded, "In 2024, we will think and work even harder so that the sweat of many who have strived for the advancement of science, technology, and information and communications will bear fruit and that those fruits will return to the people."
