A South American beauty pageant winner from Bolivia was caught and detained for trafficking weapons with her boyfriend.

On the 27th (local time), foreign media including the New York Post and Daily Mail reported that Alondra Mercado Campos (22), who was crowned 'Miss Bolivia Mundo 2020,' was recently imprisoned at the Trinidad Women's Prison in Beni. Campos is accused of illegally trafficking weapons with her boyfriend. Bolivia's Special Anti-Drug Trafficking Unit (FLECN) raided the condo where Campos and her boyfriend, Andres Vasquez, had been staying around last November. At this condo, FLECN discovered a large quantity of firearms and ammunition, including AK-47s.

Campos, who had fled to evade police pursuit, was recently arrested along with Vasquez, who was wanted for drug-related crimes. The court ruled that Campos posed a flight risk during the trial and ordered her detention for 30 days prior to the trial.

Local police stated, "During the search of Campos's residence, firearms and ammunition were found," adding, "We also secured videos from a cellphone confiscated from Campos showing her holding weapons." They further revealed, "Some cocaine was also detected in Campos's luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV), and investigations into this are ongoing."

Meanwhile, local media reported that the public was shocked upon learning of Campos's crimes, as she had recently been active as a model and had been crowned not only 'Miss Bolivia Mundo 2020' but also 'Miss Charm Bolivia 2023.'
