Preseason Exhibition and Cultural Events Receive High Praise
"As a Regional Collaborative Cultural Infrastructure"
The Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University (Director Kim Ki-su) has been selected for two consecutive years as an excellent museum in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 'University Museum Promotion Support Project.'
Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean University Museum Association, the 2023 University Museum Promotion Support Project featured Dong-A University presenting the exhibition and educational program titled 'Sustainable Cultural Power Plant, University Museum,' utilizing infrastructure within the university.
Among 102 university museums nationwide participating in this project aimed at enhancing the status and functions of university museums and promoting museums open to everyone, 17 universities including Dong-A University's Seokdang Museum took part this year.
The excellent museum awards ceremony was held on the 21st at the auditorium of Seoul National University Museum during the '2023 University Museum Promotion Support Project Forum Performance Presentation.'
This year, the Seokdang Museum at Dong-A University operated 'The Era of Convergence - Dong-A Curation Power Plant,' conducting a total of 14 exhibitions and related programs.
The first exhibition, 'The Encounter of Cultural Heritage and Radiology,' attracted attention by revealing the interiors of the collection through X-ray and CT (Computed Tomography) in collaboration between the Seokdang Museum and Dong-A University Hospital. The exhibition is currently available for online viewing on Google Art&Culture.
The second event, 'Busan Tram,' was a participatory exhibition featuring Busan tram materials submitted by university members, local residents, and related organizations, accompanied by stories.
This exhibition integrated various academic fields including history, tram routes, operating principles, and maintenance processes, and enhanced visitor immersion by allowing them to board an actual tram located on the Bumin Campus.
The video 'Busan Tram,' interpreted by the second cohort of prospective curators, Dong-A MUSE students, was also featured during this period, earning recognition as an exhibition that well reflected the characteristics of a university museum.
Director Kim Ki-su said, "We are very pleased that the Seokdang Museum has been selected again as an excellent museum in the University Museum Promotion Support Project. Going forward, the Seokdang Museum will continue to collaborate with on-campus institutions and the local community to become a cultural infrastructure facility representing both the university and the region."
