South Korea Ranks 1st for 4 Consecutive Times in OECD Public Data Evaluation, 'Best Among 40 Countries'

Evaluation every 2 years, ranked 1st since 2015
Only country with a perfect score in government support for data utilization
About twice the OECD average

The Presidential Office announced on the 22nd that the Republic of Korea achieved first place in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) public data evaluation. With a comprehensive score of 0.91 out of 1 point, it received the highest score among 40 countries. This marks the fourth consecutive time Korea has ranked first. The score was about twice the OECD average score (0.48 points). Notably, Korea was the only country among all evaluated nations to receive a perfect score in the government support sector for data utilization.

The OECD evaluates the public data policies of member and candidate countries every two years through its public data assessment. Korea ranked first in 2015, 2017, 2019, and this time as well. There was no evaluation conducted in 2021.


Lee Dowoon, the Chief Public Relations Officer, stated in a written briefing on the same day, "This result is recognized by the OECD as our government’s efforts to foster the bio and artificial intelligence (AI) industries and implement a digital platform government, while protecting personal information and actively exchanging information with the private sector." He added, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration will continue to strengthen support to enhance the utilization of high-quality public data necessary for businesses and citizens."
