Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) announced on the 19th that it will conduct an urgent safety management inspection of 25 mechanical parking towers through a public-private joint effort by the 29th.
This inspection is being carried out to prevent safety accidents for users of mechanical parking towers following the human and material damages caused by the fire accident at a hotel parking tower in Incheon on the 17th.
The main inspection items include ▲fire prevention facilities and surrounding fire hazard materials safety management ▲inspection of defective wiring, operation of leakage circuit breakers, and maintenance status of electrical and mechanical rooms ▲overall safety management including whether the mechanical parking towers have undergone legally mandated inspections.
The mechanical parking tower where the accident occurred is vulnerable to fire, and if a fire originating outside spreads, there is a high risk of property and human damage. Accordingly, Gwangju City plans to eliminate fire hazards inside and outside the facilities in advance to prevent fires from occurring.
Park Nam-joo, Director of the Citizen Safety Office, said, “We will do our best through this inspection to ensure that citizens can use the facilities in a safe environment.”
