Suncheon City Initiates Establishment of Local Food Circular Economy System

Establishing a Local Food Circulation System and Strengthening Capacity for Activating Food Governance

Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced that from the 14th to the 15th, it strengthened food governance capabilities by visiting the Farmer Processing Center and Food Integrated Support Center operating in Wanju and Gunsan with 22 stakeholders, including the Food Security Committee, to share the current status and discuss for the successful implementation of the local food plan.

The 'Local Food Plan' aims to enhance social, economic, and environmental sustainability by establishing a virtuous cycle of food within the region through the process of production-processing-distribution-consumption-welfare-environment using Local Food.

This year, the city established a local food plan with over 60 projects in four areas: building a production system, expanding consumption channels, ensuring healthy food, and public-private cooperation governance.

Along with this, the city is making efforts to activate food governance by forming food-related committees and department consultative bodies to stably implement the plan.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, "We will do our best to implement sustainable food policies aimed at establishing a virtuous cycle of local food where urban and rural areas coexist."
