Gyeonggi Office of Education Announces Next Year's Living Wage at 12,500 Won... 15.31% Increase Compared to This Year Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education has confirmed the living wage for next year at 12,500 won. This is the highest level among education offices nationwide.

On the 16th, the Office announced that the living wage for next year has been set at 12,500 won, an increase of 1,660 won (15.31%) from this year’s 10,840 won. This amount corresponds to 126.77% of next year’s minimum wage of 9,860 won. For a worker with a 40-hour workweek and 8 hours per day, this equates to a daily wage of 100,000 won.

The living wage is a wage determined by considering the minimum wage and other factors so that workers can support their families and maintain a decent standard of living.

The living wage applies to workers at affiliated institutions within the province who are not covered by wage agreements between the Ministry of Education, the nationwide city and provincial education offices, and the National School Irregular Workers Solidarity, specifically those with contract periods under one month or working less than 15 hours per week.

Since 2014, when it first implemented the ‘Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Living Wage Ordinance’ as the first metropolitan local government, the Office has determined the amount annually after consulting the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Living Wage Committee.

Kim Jae-su, head of the Labor-Management Cooperation Division at the Office, stated, “Despite difficult internal and external circumstances, we have set the 2024 living wage at the highest amount among education offices nationwide. We hope the living wage will help stabilize the lives and improve the quality of life of the Gyeonggi education family.”
