Gwangju Seobu Fire Station urged compliance with safety rules to prevent careless fires caused by welding sparks at construction sites during winter on the 14th.
There is a high risk of fire caused by carelessness during welding and cutting work at construction sites in winter, and due to the nature of construction sites, there are many obstacles to evacuation, making firefighting and evacuation activities difficult, raising concerns about casualties and property damage, so special caution is required.
In addition, welding sparks are high-temperature particles of about 3000 degrees Celsius and are small in size, so sparks that fall through gaps throughout the work site are often not discovered by personnel and lead to fires, making compliance with safety rules necessary.
The main safety rules include ▲equipping temporary firefighting facilities that meet construction site standards when handling fire such as welding work ▲storing flammable and explosive materials in separate locations ▲mandatory placement of fire watchers ▲notifying safety managers before welding work ▲removing combustible materials during welding and cutting work ▲providing spark catchers or flame-retardant sheets to catch welding sparks ▲checking and removing remaining embers around the work area after welding work.
A Seobu Fire Station official said, "Welding sparks occurring at construction sites can quickly spread into large fires," and added, "Since most fires are caused by carelessness, we hope everyone pays special attention to fire prevention."
