Former Lawmaker Son Geum-ju: "Taking a Step Forward in the New Spring"

‘This Week's Focus - Reset, A New World’ Book Launch Successfully Held

The book launch event for former National Assembly member Son Geum-ju's book, "Geumju's Perspective - Reset, A New World," was successfully concluded with the attendance of over 10,000 people.

Former Assembly member Son's book launch was held under the themes of "New Changes in Naju and Hwasun" and the "10-Year Project to Revitalize Rural Areas," consisting of a first part commemorative ceremony and a second part book concert hosted by former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Lee Cheol-hee.

About 10,000 people, including National Assembly members, heads of local governments, metropolitan council members, basic council members, organizations, civic groups, citizens of Naju and residents of Hwasun County, who have a special connection with former Assembly member Son, gathered, and the event proceeded amid a sea of people.

The concert featured congratulatory messages from party leader Lee Jae-myung and former leader Lee Hae-chan, a congratulatory telegram from floor leader Hong Ik-pyo, and videos from former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil, Supreme Council members Seo Young-kyo, Park Chan-dae, Jang Kyung-tae, Democratic Party Policy Committee Chairman Lee Gae-ho, National Assembly members Byun Jae-il, Jeong Seong-ho, Kim Seung-nam, Party Leader’s Political Coordination Office Chief Kim Young-jin, and floor deputy leader Joo Cheol-hyun.

Former Jeonbuk Governor Kim Kwan-young, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor Oh Young-hoon, and Gwangju Metropolitan Mayor Kang Ki-jung, who are known to have a special relationship with former Assembly member Son, also sent congratulatory videos.

Party leader Lee Jae-myung introduced in his recommendation, “Today is a continuous series of painful and more anxious days ahead, but former Assembly member Son Geum-ju’s new work, Geumju's Perspective - Reset, A New World, is a guide for all who dream of new hope beyond despair.”

Former leader Lee Hae-chan said, “Former Assembly member Son is a talent with ‘goodwill’ and ‘capability,’” adding, “I hope he becomes a sincere leader with former President Kim Dae-jung’s ‘acting conscience’ and ‘common sense and balance.’”

Many Supreme Council members and pro-Lee Jae-myung faction National Assembly members who sent congratulatory videos emphasized that he served as the head of the campaign situation room and situation team from the primary to the main election in Lee Jae-myung’s 20th presidential campaign, and through their shared experience during the election period, they unanimously believed that former Assembly member Son’s ‘good nature’ and ‘competence’ will bring a new spring to Naju, Hwasun, and the Republic of Korea.

Former Assembly member Son emphasized, “I published this book hoping for politics that leads change, politics that provides solutions, politics that protects the socially vulnerable, and politics where the opinions of diverse people are compromised and reflected,” adding, “I will take a step forward for those who hope for a new spring.”

At the book concert with former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Lee Cheol-hee, former Assembly member Son spoke about the Democratic Party under Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun, saying he had quietly observed the regional committees becoming privatized, and stressed that “democracy is not about ranking, hegemony, and pursuing private interests.”

Former Senior Secretary Lee Cheol-hee said, “In this era, good politicians are absolutely necessary,” and added, “Only Son Geum-ju, with his goodwill and the integrity of a former judge, can renew the political arena.”

Meanwhile, former Assembly member Son Geum-ju is scheduled to run in the 2024 general election for the Jeonnam Naju-si and Hwasun-gun electoral district.
