Professor Oh Chung-geun, Chair Professor at National Pukyong University, Receives 'Performing Artist of the Year Award'... First Local Artist to Win

Professor Oh Chung-geun, Chair Professor at Pukyong National University and Artistic Director of the Busan Symphony Orchestra, received the 14th Performing Arts Management Award for 'Performing Artist of the Year' from the Korea Performing Arts Management Association.


This award was established in 2008 to recognize the achievements of artists who have contributed to the development of the performing arts sector in Korea. It is given annually to performing artists who have demonstrated outstanding performance over the year.


Professor Oh is the first regional artist to receive the Performing Artist Award. Previous recipients include Baek Geon-woo (pianist), Kim Nam-yoon (violinist), the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (Artistic Director Chung Myung-whun), and Son Yeol-eum (pianist).


Born in Busan, Chair Professor Oh Chung-geun has been recognized for his contributions to the development of Korean performing arts through his role as Artistic Director of the Busan Symphony Orchestra, which has a 30-year history, as well as his work as Artistic Director of the Busan International Classic Music Festival, contributing to the successful establishment of the Busan Concert Hall and Busan Opera House.


He has also made his mark as a Korean conductor in world-renowned concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie Hall, Vienna Musikverein Golden Hall, Tokyo Arts Theater, and Prague Smetana Hall.


The award ceremony for the 14th Performing Arts Management Awards was held on the afternoon of the 5th at the Cosmos Art Hall in Seoul.
