Hampyeong Police and Model Drivers Jointly Conduct 'Drunk Driving Fatal Accident' Prevention Crackdown

On the 4th, the Hampyeong Police Station in Jeonnam announced on the 5th that it conducted spot (mobile) DUI checkpoints while circulating through nine towns and townships, including Hampyeong-eup, in collaboration with the Model Drivers Association.

With an increase in DUI traffic accidents and 112 reports of suspected drunk driving vehicles, it is expected that drunk driving will rise during various year-end and New Year gatherings.

Accordingly, this was carried out as part of community policing to prevent traffic accidents caused by drunk driving and to raise awareness about the dangers of drunk driving.

Hampyeong Police and Model Drivers Jointly Conduct 'Drunk Driving Fatal Accident' Prevention Crackdown

In the past five years, the days with the highest number of drunk driving fatal accidents in the Jeonnam region were Monday, Friday, and Saturday (56.8% of the total, 50 out of 88 cases).

By time, incidents were concentrated at night (from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., 54.5% of the total, 48 out of 88 cases), and compared to the previous year, fatal drunk driving accidents have occurred more frequently in rural county areas.

The police have designated a focused DUI crackdown period until the end of January next year and are conducting strong enforcement activities daily without distinction between day, night, or late night to prevent DUI traffic accidents.

The Jeonnam Provincial Police’s undercover patrol unit, riot police, traffic police, and local police at the police station are mobilizing all available personnel to expand enforcement locations such as DUI report sites and accident-prone areas, continuing mobile checkpoint operations.

Chief Yoon Chang-gi stated, “Through joint duty at DUI checkpoint sites as part of community policing with cooperative organizations such as the Model Drivers Association, we aim to build infinite love and trust in the police. With strong focused crackdowns during the year-end and New Year period, we seek to create a social atmosphere that 'DUI will definitely be cracked down on.' Drunk driving is a serious crime that not only endangers the driver but also takes away the precious lives and property of others. We will suppress the intention to drive under the influence.”
