As "sustainable fashion" establishes itself as the new normal in the fashion industry, domestic and international fashion brands are accelerating and diversifying their efforts to align with the global trend of ethical consumption.

'Sustainable Fashion' is the Trend... Fashion Industry Focuses on 'Rework' LF Hazzys Rework Collection

According to global market research firm Research and Markets on the 6th, the global market size of eco-friendly and sustainable fashion, which was valued at 8.2899 trillion KRW in 2019, is expected to grow to 10.7703 trillion KRW this year. This is attributed to the spread of value-driven consumption trends, with fashion companies that previously focused on fast fashion joining the wave of change to minimize social and environmental harm, producing new types of products more actively and in diverse ways than before.

Among the trends pursuing sustainability in line with the growth of eco-friendly fashion, "Rework Fashion" has recently gained attention. Rework fashion is an eco-friendly type of fashion that creates new clothes by dismantling discarded garments, out-of-season inventory, and damaged returned products that cannot be resold. Unlike recycling fashion, which uses recycled materials to make clothing, rework fashion is characterized by maintaining the original form of the garment while recreating it.

A representative brand actively engaged in rework fashion is LF’s "HAZZYS." Last month, HAZZYS launched a rework collection in collaboration with the upcycling fashion brand "Allians Store." An LF official explained, "HAZZYS combined its inventory with waste materials such as military fabrics to be reborn in a new style pursued by Allians Store," adding, "Clothes made by recycling discarded garments have unique designs and values different from conventional fashion products, so rework fashion has the advantage of satisfying consumers’ needs for individuality and uniqueness."

The collection products will be sold at HAZZYS’ flagship store "SpaceH" until the 7th, and HAZZYS plans to donate all proceeds from this collaboration to the nonprofit organization "Dasibda Research Institute," which is conducting campaigns to reduce clothing waste and promote resource circulation in fashion. The donation will be used for projects that spread the culture of clothing exchange and repair.

Kolon FnC has also been strengthening its commitment to sustainable fashion by operating the upcycling brand "Lacode" since 2012. Lacode showcases various products using three-year-old inventory from Kolon FnC brands as the main material, while also offering a personalized upcycling service called "Recollection," which combines eco-friendly materials and inventory garments into unique designs, as well as repair and reform services through "Box Atelier."

Overseas brands are also releasing various rework products under the principle of environmental protection and reducing resource waste. Danish brand "GANNI" introduced a rework denim collection last year, producing a total of 16 styles of clothing using denim inventory in collaboration with London designer Aluwalia. Luxury streetwear brand "OAMC" also launched a new line called "Re:Work," focusing on sustainability.
