Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, has installed road address base number plates in safety-vulnerable areas of Uljin-eup, establishing an ‘SOS One-Stop System.’
The base number plates are signboards that use road names and base numbers to indicate locations in places without buildings or around roads.
Until now, it was difficult to find facilities to describe the location of specific areas during safety accidents, making it hard to confirm accurate location information. In response, the county installed QR code base number plates last November, which automatically display location information when scanned with a smartphone. Additionally, a system was established to directly contact police and fire control rooms.
The county installed 44 base number plates in Uljin-eup, including training centers, peripheral intersections, small sports fields, and newly constructed roads, and plans to continue installing solar-powered base number plates in other eup and myeon areas annually.
County Governor Son Byeong-bok said, “Concerns about safety, such as disasters and crimes, have increased, leading to the installation of QR code base number plates,” adding, “We hope the QR code base number plates will help facilitate rapid rescue in emergency situations.”
