Expectations for Economic Recovery, High Interest in Innovation Cases in Daily Life
The attraction of the ‘Semiconductor Materials and Components Specialized Complex’ was selected as the number one news item among the top 10 news stories of 2023 in Gumi City.

Gumi City announced that among 30 major municipal policies voted on by citizens in 2023, the attraction of the semiconductor specialized complex received the most support.
Following the 2nd place ‘Attraction of Defense Innovation Cluster,’ the ‘Gumi Ramen Festival’ and ‘Gumi Food Festival’ were ranked 3rd and 4th respectively, with the ‘Partial Free Opening of Geumosan Main Parking Lot’ coming next.
Other items in the top 10 included ▲Activation of the 365 Pediatric and Adolescent Medical Center ▲Installation of a concession stand and improvement of public restrooms at Nakdong River Sports Park ▲Introduction of a simple verification service for Gumi citizens ▲Pre-feasibility study commencement for the construction of the highway between Bukgumi IC and Gunwi JC ▲Corporate investment of 2.1459 trillion KRW (as of October 2023).
Also, the ‘2023 Gumi Food Festival,’ which set records for the highest attendance and best performance ever (484 votes, 6.1%), narrowly ranked 4th. The second annual Gumi Food Festival attracted a record-breaking 150,000 visitors, the largest number in the history of Gumi City festivals, and achieved total sales of 380 million KRW among participating businesses, confirming citizens’ positive evaluation of the synergistic effect of the festival on revitalizing the local economy.
The 5th place was taken by the ‘Partial Free Opening of Geumosan Main Parking Lot’ (449 votes, 5.7%), a measure aimed at providing convenience to visitors of Geumosan, a year-round national attraction, reflecting citizens’ interest in changes they can feel in their daily lives.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “As a result of continuously considering the changes citizens want this year, it was a good opportunity to confirm diverse evaluations and interests from citizens, ranging from minor matters to major achievements. Especially, the narrow vote differences among the top 10 news items indicate a balanced satisfaction with major municipal policies, which is encouraging. I promise that innovation will continue in 2024 to bring about the changes citizens desire.”
