Icheon 'Seolbong Park' Transforms into a Larger and More Diverse Space

Icheon-si Reveals Phased Maintenance Plan
Additional 93,000㎡ Waterside Park Development

Gyeonggi-do Icheon City is embarking on a major remodeling of 'Seolbong Park,' a representative resting space for local residents. The plan is to create a space that reflects residents' opinions extensively, featuring a children's themed playground, a four-season sledding hill, a complex observation tower, and a lawn plaza.

On the 4th, Icheon City unveiled the Seolbong Park development plan containing these details. This plan was revised and supplemented through surveys and other means since the launch of the 8th public administration, and includes not only remodeling the existing park but also creating an additional 28,000-pyeong (approximately 92,500㎡) waterfront park.

According to the plan, by May next year, during the first phase of the pedestrian-oriented street maintenance project, the city will remove the roadway between Citizen's Tower and Seolbongjeong Pavilion and create a resting area. A 6,045㎡ lawn plaza will be established here, capable of hosting various events such as outdoor performances, movie screenings, flea markets, and cultural events.

The plan also includes the creation of a 2,779㎡ children's themed park. The themed park will feature three-dimensional play facilities and community resting areas, serving as a space where parents and children can communicate.

To create a safe walking environment, pedestrian-only walking trails will be constructed, and aging paved roads will be improved. Additionally, the existing 'Gombangdae Gamateo' site will be developed into a four-season sledding hill utilizing the slope, and a complex observation tower will be built to allow visitors to enjoy views of Seolbongsan Mountain and the cityscape.

Earlier, as part of the first phase project, the city installed various landscape lighting around Seolbong Lake. Line bar LEDs capable of diverse lighting effects were installed along a 1 km walking trail, and pattern design gobos were installed at five locations. Interior lighting was also provided in the deck stage area.

Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon City, said, "Once the first phase project, which includes road improvements and securing pedestrian safety, is completed, we plan to create a themed park equipped with a four-season sledding hill and observation tower."

The waterfront park will also be expanded centered around Bokha Stream, which runs through Icheon. The new waterfront park, developed on a 93,242㎡ site along Bokha Stream connecting Jinri-dong and Anheung-dong, will link with the existing first waterfront park 'Samgyeopsal Park,' the second waterfront park, and Jungri Stream Ecological Park.

Centered on Jungri Stream Ecological Park, a third waterfront park will be developed on a 35,208㎡ site toward Bokha 1 Bridge. This area will include a family camping site, forest resting spaces, lawns, and an event plaza. The fourth waterfront park, developed on a 58,034㎡ site from Jungri Stream Ecological Park toward Seohui Bridge, will be designed with water play facilities, an adventure zone, themed gardens, and themed forests.

Mayor Kim explained, "Once the third and fourth waterfront parks are completed, combined with existing soccer fields, baseball fields, and park golf courses, Bokha Stream will become a citizen park where sports, rest, and play facilities harmonize."
