On the 30th, Samsung C&T announced that it will build a facility in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk Province, producing green hydrogen, a clean energy source, by utilizing renewable energy through off-grid solar power generation. Off-grid refers to a method of producing energy directly without receiving electricity, gas, or other energy from external sources.

This project is a business to build infrastructure that produces, stores, and transports 0.6 tons of green hydrogen per day using 100% renewable energy in connection with the Gimcheon solar power plant. Electrolyzer facilities will be established by December next year, and actual production is planned to start in January 2025. The produced hydrogen will be used as an eco-friendly fuel for hydrogen vehicle charging stations and nearby fuel cell power generation.

Samsung C&T will oversee the entire design, procurement, and construction (EPC) including basic and detailed design of the solar power generation, energy storage, green hydrogen production facilities, and related systems, as well as major equipment procurement and construction. It will also participate in operation and maintenance (O&M). Based on the accumulated technology and data, the company plans to promote large-scale green hydrogen projects domestically and internationally in the future.

In this regard, Samsung C&T signed a business agreement at Gimcheon City Hall with Gimcheon City, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea National Oil Corporation, Korea Electric Power Technology, and others for off-grid green hydrogen production and utilization. LS Electric, Hydrogen Energy Network, and S-Fuel Cell also participated.

Jung Ki-seok, General Manager of Samsung C&T Energy Technology Team, said, "This is a meaningful project promoted by the cooperation of public and private sectors, and it will serve as a cornerstone for building a future energy self-reliant city and large-scale green hydrogen production overseas."
