On the 29th, the S-OIL Science and Culture Foundation held the '13th S-OIL Excellent Thesis Award' ceremony and the '5th Next Generation Scientist Award' ceremony at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
The foundation awarded research grants totaling 144 million KRW to 12 young scientists and 12 advisors who received the Excellent Thesis Award in six fields, and 240 million KRW to six next-generation scientists selected in six fields.
The recipients of the 'Outstanding Thesis Award and Next-Generation Scientist Award' are taking a group commemorative photo.
The Excellent Thesis Award recipients were ▲ Dr. Kim Ki-hyun and Dr. Choi Jun-ho from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) (Mathematics) ▲ Dr. Kim Dong-ha from KAIST and Dr. Kim Jin-wook from Seoul National University (Physics) ▲ Dr. Shin Seung-jae from KAIST and Dr. Shin Jin-woo from Korea University (Chemistry) ▲ Dr. Lee Jun-hyuk from KAIST and Dr. Kim Dong-yoon from Seoul National University (Life Sciences) ▲ Dr. Kim Ju-sung from Seoul National University and Dr. Lee Jin-woo from KAIST (Chemical Engineering/Materials Engineering) ▲ Dr. Lee Jeong-beom and Dr. Shin Won-jun from Seoul National University (IT).
The Next Generation Scientist Awardees were ▲ Professor Yang Hee-jun from KAIST (Physics) ▲ Professor Yoon Hyo-jae from Korea University (Chemistry) ▲ Professor Lee Yoon-hee from Seoul National University (Physiology and Medicine) ▲ Professor Seon Jeong-yoon from Seoul National University (Chemical Engineering/Materials Engineering) ▲ Professor Jung Jae-woong from KAIST (IT) ▲ Dr. Yoo Sung-jong from KAIST (Energy).
S-OIL CEO Al Hizaji said, “The future of Korean science is bright as there are scientists who have published outstanding papers in basic science and gained global recognition. We will continue to support Korean scientists so that they can focus on their research stably.”
S-OIL has established and operated the independent foundation ‘S-OIL Science and Culture Foundation’ since 2011 to support pure science fields.
In addition to the Excellent Thesis Award ceremony, the foundation operates various programs to support research and nurture talent in the science and engineering fields, including hosting international academic forums.
