The Civil Division 33 of the Seoul High Court announced in the afternoon that it overturned the first-instance court's dismissal in the damages lawsuit appeal filed by 15 plaintiffs including Halmeoni Lee Yong-soo against the Japanese government, and fully recognized the plaintiffs' claimed amount.
Kim said, "I also express my gratitude to the court that delivered a just ruling," adding, "It was confirmed again in today's trial that the principle of state immunity does not apply to inhumane illegal acts. Japan should no longer evade responsibility and must immediately comply with the damages ruling."
