The Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (Head: Jo Young-ho) announced on the 20th that it will support water supply to stabilize the growth of winter field crops.
With October rainfall in Jeonnam region at 8.0mm, only about 13% of the average (62mm), severe drought continued in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas earlier this year, causing emergencies even in the supply of domestic water.

The Jeonnam Headquarters has been continuously pumping and storing water since the autumn harvest, making every effort to secure agricultural water, resulting in no major disruptions in water supply for rice farming. This year as well, they plan to closely monitor weather conditions and maintain thorough preparations.
In particular, as the cultivation of facility horticulture and field crops increases, but often relies solely on rainfall, the Jeonnam Headquarters is paying attention to water supply for field crops as well.
Just as they supported water supply to 2,400 hectares of field crops in six drought-affected counties including Haenam County this spring, they will continue to strive for stable water supply for field crops.
Head Jo Young-ho said, “As the importance of water management due to extreme weather such as droughts and heavy rains is increasing, we will do our best to create an environment where farmers can cultivate with peace of mind through efficient and safe water management.”
Meanwhile, October rainfall (’23.10.1~10.31) was 8mm in Jeonnam, 14mm in Jeonbuk, 21mm in Jeju, and 17mm nationwide on average.
