Jeonnam Provincial Council Welcomes Suncheon National University’s Selection as ‘Glocal University 30’

The Jeonnam Provincial Council expressed its welcome on the 13th as Suncheon National University was finally selected for the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30'.

On this day, spokesperson Park Won-jong stated in a press release, "The official designation of Suncheon National University as one of the 'Glocal University 30' opens a new path to promote innovative development through win-win cooperation between universities and local communities in an era of population extinction," adding, "We sincerely welcome this together with the 2 million residents of the province."

'Glocal University 30' is a large-scale project in which the government selects and supports 30 non-metropolitan regional universities equipped with innovation will and capabilities to counter the rapid decline in school-age population and changes in industrial structure.

Suncheon National University was selected as one of 15 preliminary designated universities through the first evaluation among 108 universities that submitted innovation plans to the government this year, and was finally selected as one of 10 officially designated universities through the second evaluation. It will receive a total of 100 billion KRW in support over the next five years.

Spokesperson Park said, "The selection for Glocal University 30 will be a starting point for local universities, local governments, and regional industries to build close partnerships and pursue mid- to long-term innovation strategies," adding, "Jeonnam Province will firmly establish itself as a hub for industry-academia cooperation while nurturing outstanding talent through this."

He continued, "The Provincial Council will spare no effort in various ways to maximize the synergy of the industry-academia-local government alliance," and added, "We will actively cooperate in promoting specialized industries that foster industrial development and talent cultivation, creating new driving forces for the development of Jeonnam."
