According to Business Insider on the 12th (local time), Tesla added a new rule by including a section titled 'Cybertruck Exclusive' in its vehicle order terms.
This section states, "The customer agrees not to sell or attempt to sell the vehicle within one year after taking delivery of the vehicle."
It also states, "Tesla may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of vehicle ownership or claim damages of $50,000 (approximately 66.02 million KRW) or the greater amount received as consideration for the sale or transfer."
In case of violation of these terms, Tesla warned, "Tesla may refuse to sell you any vehicles in the future." However, it added that if there is sufficient reason to sell the Cybertruck, Tesla may purchase it or consent to a third-party sale.
In fact, if Tesla does not agree to the resale, resale could become difficult considering the software subscription model. For example, Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD), a driving assistance system with a monthly fee of $199 (approximately 260,000 KRW), cannot be transferred to a new owner.
Tesla's Cybertruck Gains Attention for Its Unique Design
Previously, the Cybertruck attracted significant attention with its unique design that looks like something out of a science fiction movie. The Cybertruck was originally announced in 2019 but production was delayed several times due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors. Competitors have already released multiple electric pickup trucks such as Rivian's R1T and Ford's F-150 Lightning.
Elon Musk, CEO, explained about the Cybertruck during an interview on the 'Joe Rogan Experience' podcast on the 31st of last month.
Musk revealed that the weight of the Cybertruck will be approximately 6,000 to 7,000 pounds (about 2,721 to 3,175 kg) depending on the model. He also stated that the Cybertruck will be equipped with bulletproof steel panels and will offer a bulletproof glass option.
Musk stated that the goal is to produce 200,000 Cybertrucks annually, emphasizing that "production is much more difficult than the initial design." He mentioned the possibility of increasing production to 200,000 units by next year and up to 250,000 units by 2025.
