Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced that he will introduce a subscription service on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which he owns.
On the 20th (local time), Musk posted on his X account, "We will soon launch a new premium subscription service," adding, "One offers all features at a lower price but does not reduce ads. The other is more expensive but ad-free."
There were no detailed explanations about the two pricing plans.
Recently, X began testing a $1 annual subscription fee for the 'Not a bot (automated information retrieval program)' feature, which allows users to 'like' or repost other posts.
If users do not subscribe, they can only perform 'read-only' actions such as reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts.
Since acquiring Twitter last October, Musk has introduced various measures to generate revenue. He laid off two-thirds of the staff and implemented various paid services.
He launched 'Twitter Blue,' a paid verification service costing $8 per month. Since April this year, only paid members have been granted privileges such as post recommendations, polls, and participation in Twitter Spaces.
