Nowon-gu Junggye-dong Nohae Park Transforms into a Youth Theme Sports Park

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 16th that construction has begun to transform Nohae Park, located in Junggye-dong, into a youth-themed sports park.

Nohae Park, located in Junggye 1-dong, Nowon-gu, covers an area of 34,647㎡ and is equipped with various outdoor sports facilities such as a soccer field, jokgu court, badminton court, basketball hoops, and an inline skating track. In particular, adjacent to the park is Junggye Community Sports Center (formerly Nowon Community Sports Center), the district's first cultural and sports complex, serving as a representative cultural and sports park for residents.

However, the park was established in 1995, and its facilities have become outdated, failing to reflect the changing demands of park users. Additionally, the district recognized the issue of a lack of dedicated, healthy, and enjoyable resting spaces for youth despite excellent educational infrastructure.

To remodel Nohae Park into a youth sports infrastructure and a pleasant park for local residents, the district has invested a total budget of 8.8 billion KRW and commenced construction on the 16th.

First, through the Nohae Park regeneration project, a "youth-specialized sports space" will be created. This aims to lead a dynamic and trendy sports culture centered on the youth demographic.

Facilities to be installed include ▲X-Game Zone (extreme sports such as skateboarding) ▲Street Workout area (street exercise involving various bars for high-difficulty postures) ▲Inline skating track ▲Outdoor Pilates equipment ▲Fitness equipment. Notably, the X-Game Zone was designed through consultations with local residents who are experienced professionals, resulting in a space that is easily accessible and enjoyable for individual beginners.

Also, as a youth-specialized space, a "Youth Hideout" will be created. Aligned with the sports park theme, it will be designed to accommodate dance club activities, becoming a cultural and recreational resting space that matches youth trends. An "Ajit Pergola," harmonizing with the surrounding trees and providing ample openness, will also be installed nearby.

Next, the goal is to create an "everyday exercise environment embracing all demographics." The district is dedicating efforts to design spaces and facilities that allow everyone?from children to seniors, and people with disabilities to those without?to comfortably rest and engage in various physical activities.

The multipurpose ball field will be composed of highly utilized ball sports facilities: ▲two futsal courts ▲three basketball courts ▲one jokgu court. Additionally, exercise equipment will be concentrated in two locations for easy access by seniors. Next to the futsal courts, 20 pieces of equipment including pull-up bars, parallel bars, sit-up stations, and full-body muscle relaxation devices will be installed. In the forested area near the Youth Hideout, 22 pieces of equipment such as waist rotation, marathon running, and arm push/pull devices will be set up.

The district will also create a 650m circular walking trail to ensure that vulnerable pedestrians such as infants, pregnant women, and people with disabilities can enjoy the park together. Furthermore, to create an "All Can Play Playground (inclusive playground)" where children with and without disabilities can play together, the district is currently gathering opinions with the "Nowon-gu Integrated Play Environment Diagnosis Team." A temporary rest area for pet owners equipped with mesh fences, benches, and CCTV will also be provided.

Meanwhile, the district is promoting a "Living Park Regeneration Project" targeting 28 neighborhood parks and 90 children's parks within the area. Park regeneration is being carried out in a way that preserves the unique characteristics of each area, including circular walking trails, exercise spaces, grassy lawns, resting areas, and enhanced children's play facilities. This project, which began in 2019, has completed the creation of 71 parks to date and plans to continue renovations sequentially until 2026.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok stated, "We have transformed Nohae Park into a youth-themed sports park to provide a space where young people can freely play and rest," adding, "We will continue to accelerate the park regeneration project so that everyone can heal in nearby parks without being left out."
