Along with the evaluation, there was a time for mutual growth and communication with farmers aiming to enter the top 10 high-quality branded rice of Jeollanam-do, including guidance on controlling rice leaf folder, precautions when cultivating Gangdaechan rice, powdery rice cultivation and related policies, and fostering the Jindo Premium Brand Rice Production Complex project.
In particular, for the top 10 high-quality branded rice of Jeollanam-do, strict management was emphasized to prevent variety mixing during harvest and drying by participating farmers, and it was requested that 100% certified seeds be used for contract cultivation next year.
Additionally, this year’s pest and disease occurrence showed that rice leaf folder increased sixfold compared to the previous year, and recently rice water weevil, green leafhopper, rice black bug, and rice ear-cutting caterpillar have been on the rise, calling for special attention and care.
A representative from the Jindo-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “This year, due to the prolonged rainy season and humid high temperatures causing the spread of rice leaf folder damage, timely pest control promotion and the use of emergency contingency funds helped minimize pest and disease damage, resulting in an expected increase in yield. We will continue to do our best in field response, including pest control measures and securing budgets in response to climate change.”
