Youth Baekiljang Acrostic Poem Contest Also Held
Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do sponsors, and the Suncheon Writers' Association organizes the 'National Kim Seung-ok Writing Contest' and the 'Palma Cultural Festival Youth Acrostic Poem Contest,' which will be held on the 14th at the South Gate Plaza of Suncheon Bueupseong.
The 'Kim Seung-ok National Writing Contest' is open to university students and the general public nationwide, while the 'Acrostic Poem Contest' is open to all citizens and divided into elementary, middle and high school, and university/general divisions.
The contest theme will be announced on the day, and the writing contest will be conducted in both poetry and prose categories. Those wishing to participate can register by the 13th or on-site registration is also available.
Prizes for the 'Kim Seung-ok National Writing Contest' include one grand prize winner (1,000,000 KRW), two gold prize winners (500,000 KRW each), four silver prize winners (300,000 KRW each), and six encouragement prize winners (100,000 KRW each). The winning works will be published in a collection and distributed to universities and major libraries nationwide, and winners will also be given opportunities to debut under the name of the Suncheon Writers' Association.
Kim Seung-ok, a native of Suncheon, is a novelist who wrote the representative literary work of the 1960s, "Mujin Travelogue," known for his sensory and captivating writing style.
In a 1994 interview, he expressed his deep passion for literature by saying, "Every time I write a novel, it doesn't feel like writing with ink; it feels like squeezing my own blood to write."
Heo Jeong, president of the Suncheon Writers' Association, said, "We are honored to hold the writing contest and acrostic poem contest on a serene autumn day," and added, "We hope many writers from across the country will attend, enjoy the Palma Cultural Festival, and showcase their talents."
