Strong Performance of Products in the 100,000 to 200,000 Won Range
Major large marts (Emart, Homeplus, Lotte Mart) are conducting the main sales of Chuseok gift sets. This year, there has been a significant increase in customers seeking 'practical premium' products priced between 100,000 and 200,000 KRW.
According to the industry on the 28th, major large marts that closed their pre-order sales last week are currently continuing with the main sales. Emart will run its main sales until the 29th, Homeplus until the 30th, and Lotte Mart until the 1st of next month.
A notable trend in the main sales following the pre-order period is the strong demand for practical premium products. Emart has introduced a more diverse lineup of Korean beef sets than ever before this Chuseok, with popular items in the 100,000 to 200,000 KRW range such as the 'Hanwoo Plus Whole Cow Set' (133,200 KRW) and the 'Hanwoo Plus Sirloin and Striploin Set' (169,200 KRW). In fact, Emart recorded an all-time high with practical premium product sales accounting for 62% during the pre-order period.
Homeplus is also selling a variety of practical livestock gift sets. These include the 'Jeju Hanwoo 1++ Grade Sirloin Assorted Grilled Refrigerated Set' (256,000 KRW), which features Jeju 1++ grade or higher Hanwoo sirloin, ribeye, shrimp meat, and chuck flap tail by cut; the 'U.S. Oxtail Frozen Set' (112,000 KRW), suitable for steaming and soups; and the 'Canada Air-shipped Steak Refrigerated Set' (216,000 KRW), known for its rich meat juices.
Lotte Mart has also expanded its range of practical livestock gift sets priced between 100,000 and 200,000 KRW. The 'Purebred Wagyu Royal Roast Gift Set' is offered at 129,000 KRW, and the 'Mongtan Frozen Prime Galbi Gift Set,' which includes prime galbi from the famous Seoul restaurant Mongtan along with a secret yuzu wasabi sauce, is priced at 99,000 KRW. Additionally, the 'Non-parous Cow Hanwoo Gift Set,' made from sirloin and striploin cuts of cows that have not given birth, is available for 269,000 KRW.
An industry insider stated, "Due to the ongoing high inflation, consumers seem to be seeking practical premium products that offer premium quality at relatively affordable prices." They added, "This trend continues from the pre-order sales into the main sales period."
