'580,000' Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports Festival Opens in Goyang on 22nd Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports for All Festival Poster

The 17th Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports for All Games will open on the 22nd in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.


Gyeonggi-do announced on the 21st that under the slogan "Together with hearts that run together for sports for all!", the 17th Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports for All Games will be held over two days from the 22nd to 23rd of this month at the Goyang Sports Complex, with a delegation of 4,550 participants (2,246 athletes and 2,304 guardians and officials) from 31 cities and counties within the province.


During the event, athletes will compete in a total of 24 events, including 13 sports such as gateball, basketball, billiards, dance sports, lawn bowls, boccia, rowing, jokgu, table tennis, park golf, taekwondo, badminton, and swimming, as well as 11 fun sports events including group jump rope, disc golf, shulren, showdown, yutnori, tuho, hangung, hula hoop, wheelchair racing, sport stacking, and laser shooting.


Gyeonggi-do added three new events: sport stacking (cup stacking) to increase student participation, laser shooting to promote 4th industrial sports, and swimming to encourage sports for all.


The opening ceremony will be held on the 22nd at 11 a.m. at the Goyang Sports Complex, attended by Andonggwang, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau; Lee Youngbong, Chair of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee; Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang; city and county heads; members of the National Assembly; provincial council members; heads of Gyeonggi sports organizations; and other officials related to disabled sports and residents.


In line with the ‘100% Renewable Energy (RE100)’ policy, Gyeonggi-do and Goyang City purchased approximately 170,000 kWh of electricity for the opening ceremony using the green premium method.


Namgung Woong, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Sports Promotion Division, stated, "As this is a sports for all event for disabled people in Gyeonggi-do, we will strive to provide more equal opportunities so that all 580,000 disabled residents of Gyeonggi-do can fully enjoy their ‘right to exercise’ and have a healthy and happy life festival."


The 18th Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports for All Games will be held next year in Seongnam City.
