Drunk Driver Parks in Empty Spot... Turns Out It Was a Police Precinct

On-site Alcohol Testing... Arrests for Violating the Road Traffic Act

A drunk driver who parked in an empty spot in a parking lot was caught by the police for drunk driving. This was because the place he parked was the parking lot of the local police substation.

On the 8th, the National Police Agency's official YouTube channel uploaded a video titled "Where did the drunk driver park?"

In the video, driver A, who was driving a black sports utility vehicle (SUV), honked loudly for no reason around 7 p.m. on the 16th of last month on a road in front of a parking lot in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province. Passersby were startled and looked at A's vehicle. A police officer from the substation, also startled by the honking, hurried outside to check the situation, but the vehicle had already disappeared.

A few minutes later, A reappeared and parked the vehicle in an empty spot in the parking lot. After parking, A got out of the car, locked the door, and smoked a cigarette by the roadside. He was seen staggering as he walked.

Seeing this, a police officer approached A and asked, "What brings you here?" A, smelling of alcohol, began to speak incoherently. The police immediately grabbed A's hand and conducted a breathalyzer test. The place where A parked was none other than the local police substation parking lot. It is known that A mistook the substation parking lot for a regular parking lot and parked there to take a short rest.

The breathalyzer test showed that A was in a state of severe intoxication with a blood alcohol concentration of over 0.2%. This is more than twice the license cancellation standard. The Ilsanseobu Police Station in Gyeonggi arrested A on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

Meanwhile, a similar incident occurred in March. A driver in his 20s, suspected of drunk driving, fled recklessly when a patrol car responded to a report and chased him, only to be caught after entering the outdoor parking lot of a police station.

Driver B was driving an SUV after drinking on a road in Jakjeon-dong, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, around 10:40 p.m. on March 25. After receiving a report, the police arrived at the scene, but B fled about 1 km to evade them. The police, responding to a citizen's report of a suspected drunk driver, repeatedly ordered B to stop, but he ignored the commands and continued to flee. B drove at high speed past pedestrians crossing the road and even crossed the center line, continuing a dangerously reckless escape.

To stop A's vehicle, one patrol car rammed the rear bumper of A's vehicle, and another blocked the front. Despite this, A did not stop and continued to evade. When patrol cars closed in from the left and rear, A made a sudden right turn and entered an outdoor parking lot of a building. That place was the parking lot of the Incheon Gyeyang Police Station.

With no way to continue fleeing, A parked and got out of the driver's seat and was arrested. Immediately after the arrest, B stated that he had not been drinking and questioned why the police were following him. However, it was confirmed that A's blood alcohol concentration at the time was 0.180%, the license cancellation level. B was booked on charges of drunk driving and obstruction of official duties under the Road Traffic Act.
