Assemblywoman Hwang Bo-seung-hee Faces Prosecution for Illegal Political Fund Acceptance

Hwang Bo-seung-hee, an independent member of the National Assembly representing Busan Jung and Yeongdo, who is accused of receiving illegal political funds, will undergo prosecution investigation.

The Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 11th that they have sent Hwang to the prosecution without detention on charges of violating the Political Funds Act and the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.

Hwang, who was elected in the 21st general election and entered the National Assembly, has been accused of receiving money and valuables from local politicians in exchange for nomination during the election.

She is also accused of receiving cash and credit cards from the chairman of a real estate development company with whom she was in a de facto marital relationship.

The police secured Hwang's account transaction details and have been investigating the flow of funds, reportedly detecting some of the allegations.

Hwang explained that the investigation, which began after a citizen group filed a complaint, was an unfounded one-sided claim, but controversy and suspicion intensified when her ex-husband, Mr. A, voluntarily gave a media interview.

Mr. A submitted a list to the police containing the names of those who handed money envelopes to Hwang during the 2020 general election.

As the controversy continued, Hwang left the People Power Party, and no party-level investigation or disciplinary action was taken.
