89 Foreign Seasonal Workers Arrive, Expected to Alleviate Rural Labor Shortage

The Muan County Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun) held a meeting on the 24th with about 10 attendees, including Silangsi Council members from the Philippines and related personnel.

According to the county council on the 25th, ahead of the busy farming season, continuous exchanges between the two councils regarding foreign seasonal workers were promoted to achieve mutual development and to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas.


This visit allowed for inspection and encouragement regarding the working conditions of foreign seasonal workers from Silangsi, Philippines, and the operation methods of the related programs.


Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun stated, "The arrival of seasonal workers from the Philippines has greatly helped secure labor for farms during the farming season," adding, "We hope that the stable operation of the foreign seasonal worker program will continue to ease the labor shortages faced by rural farms."


Meanwhile, the foreign seasonal worker program is a system that allows foreigners to work for 90 days or 5 months in industries with concentrated labor demand to alleviate labor shortages in rural areas. In the second half of the year, 89 Filipino workers participating in the foreign seasonal worker program entered through Incheon Airport.
