Temporary public parking lot established on the site of One Square, a long-term construction-halted building in front of Anyang Station
A temporary public parking lot has been established on the site of the long-abandoned building 'One Square' in front of Anyang Station, Gyeonggi-do.
Anyang City announced on the 22nd that it recently created a temporary public parking lot with a capacity of 75 vehicles at 668-29 Anyang-dong, Manan-gu, and will begin operation from the 25th.
An Anyang City official explained, "We sought to utilize idle land to alleviate parking difficulties and to prevent potential safety issues that could arise if the demolition site is left as an empty lot by using it as a temporary public parking lot."
To this end, Anyang City held several discussions with the landowner in May and signed an agreement to use the site as a public parking lot.
The newly established temporary public parking lot will operate during the idle period until construction work begins on the site. The parking fees follow the existing Suam Covered Public Parking Lot fee system (600 KRW for the first 30 minutes, 300 KRW per 10 minutes up to 1 hour thereafter, followed by a progressive surcharge system).
Mayor Choi Jae-ho of Anyang said, "We are striving to minimize inconvenience to citizens caused by the Suamcheon stream maintenance project," and promised, "We will do our best to promptly create parks and parking lots so that the old downtown area, including Anyang Ilbeonga, can be revitalized."
Previously, Anyang City had continuously urged the building owner of One Square, whose construction was halted and abandoned in October 1998, to resume the project and made various efforts to enable the owner to select a new demolition company and start actual demolition work.
The demolition of One Square began in October last year after 24 years, and was completed in April this year.
Meanwhile, Anyang City is promoting the Suamcheon stream maintenance project, aiming for completion in February 2026, which involves restoring the covered section of Suamcheon to a natural stream, creating a 4,723㎡ park, and establishing a public parking lot with 261 spaces.
