"Don't Drink This Milk" MFDS Suspends Sales and Recalls 'Sejong Milk'

‘Sejong Milk’ produced by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Chungnam National University was found to be non-compliant with bacterial count standards and has been suspended from sale.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced on the 17th that 'Sejong Milk,' manufactured by the livestock product processing company (dairy processing) at Chungnam National University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is subject to sales suspension and recall due to non-compliance with bacterial count standards.

The recalled product has a distribution and consumption expiration date of August 19, 2023, and the packaging unit is 100mL.

The manufacturing date is not separately indicated, and the barcode number is 8809240374122.

The product was found to be non-compliant with bacterial count standards based on the company’s self-quality inspection results.

Accordingly, Chungnam National University has voluntarily suspended sales and initiated recall measures under the supervision of the MFDS.

The MFDS requested, "Retailers storing the recalled food products should stop sales and return them to the recalling business operators, and consumers who purchased these products should not consume them but return them to the manufacturer to actively cooperate with the recall of hazardous food."

Earlier, on the 14th, the MFDS also took sales suspension and recall actions on beef bone soup and ABC juice distributed in the market.

The recalled beef bone soup is 'Hanwoo Beef Bone Soup' manufactured by Sancheong Natural Foods located in Sancheong, Gyeongnam, where the company’s self-quality inspection confirmed positive bacterial growth. The expiration date is July 5, 2024, and the packaging unit is 600g.

The popular health drink, organic ABC juice, was also found to be non-compliant with bacterial count standards and subjected to sales suspension and recall. The product is 'Organic ABC Juice' (food type: fruit and vegetable juice) manufactured and sold by the agricultural cooperative corporation Soklibiotech. The consumption expiration date of the recalled product is August 1, 2024, and the packaging unit is 100mL.

On the 14th, the MFDS also issued a 'Grade 1 recall order' for the Spanish 'Heidel Grape Seed Oil' imported and sold by Heidel Korea. This was due to the carcinogen 'benzo[a]pyrene' being detected above the standard limit in the imported grape seed oil. The Grade 1 recall order applies to foods with the highest risk, where the impact and side effects on human health are significant. The recalled product has a distribution and consumption expiration date of November 8, 2024, and the packaging unit is 500mL.
