Seoul Subway Lowers Temperature Amid Heatwave to Cool Citizens
50 Non-Air-Conditioned Stations Equipped with Portable Coolers and Over 5,000 Bottles of Water Provided
Spraying Conducted at 13 Key Track Facilities in Vehicle Depots and Ground Sections to Prevent Rail Warping
Citizens Are Also Advised to Stay Hydrated and Rest for Summer Health
Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced that it will provide convenience to citizens exhausted by the heat by lowering temperatures in non-air-conditioned stations and on the rails.
Portable coolers (photo) have been urgently installed at 50 non-air-conditioned stations, over 5,000 bottles of water are being provided at heat relief shelters, and automatic spraying devices are being operated at key track facilities in ground sections.
As part of Seoul City's emergency measures against the disaster-level heatwave, 500 portable coolers have been urgently installed at 50 non-air-conditioned stations on Lines 1 to 8. Starting August 12, over 5,000 bottles of Arisu water will be provided at heat relief shelters in these stations for the elderly and others.
Additionally, to prevent rail warping caused by rising temperatures, spraying and inspections have been intensified. Spraying devices are operating at 13 locations: 10 on the ground main lines of Lines 1 to 8 and 3 in vehicle depots. Track inspections on foot are being strengthened across 11 vehicle depots (198.9 km), along with train patrol inspections on 69 km of ground main lines, to prevent damage to track facilities caused by the heatwave.
President Baek Ho stated, “We will do our best to ensure that portable coolers are installed as soon as possible to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure citizen safety during the summer. We also ask citizens to stay well hydrated and rest to maintain their health.”
