Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Holds Safety Measures Meeting in Response to Typhoon Khanun
Strengthening Safety Measures by Identifying Risk Factors in Advance as Landslide-Prone Areas and Retaining Walls Adjacent to Residential Areas Are Directly Linked to Casualties from Collapse Accidents
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, announced that on the 8th at 1 PM, he held a countermeasure meeting in the mayor’s office to ensure the safety of residents in preparation for the northward approach of Typhoon Khanun (KHNUN), the 6th typhoon of the season.
This meeting was convened to comprehensively discuss the typhoon’s forecast, share the status of each department, and review preparedness measures, as Typhoon Khanun is expected to deviate from its originally predicted path and pass through the Korean Peninsula. Twelve key department heads, including the Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau and the Head of the Flood Control Division, participated.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that light rain would begin on the afternoon of the 9th due to rain clouds from the typhoon, intensifying from the daytime of the 10th with strong winds and heavy rainfall exceeding 150mm, gradually tapering off by the morning or daytime of the 11th.
Accordingly, the district plans to strengthen safety measures by identifying risk factors in advance, as collapse accidents in landslide-prone areas and retaining walls adjacent to residential neighborhoods are directly linked to casualties.
Inspections of vulnerable facilities within ongoing reconstruction construction sites and maintenance zones will also be intensified. Joint inspections will be conducted by work supervisors, supervisors, and constructors, with minor issues to be immediately corrected on-site.
Considering that World Scout Jamboree participants moving to Seoul and the metropolitan area due to Typhoon Khanun will visit Nowon and complete their remaining schedules within the district, special attention will be paid to the operation of programs affected by the typhoon.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok instructed, “Closely monitor weather conditions and prioritize safety by focusing all administrative efforts on pre-inspections and measures for risk areas and facilities,” and added, “We will also thoroughly prepare the jamboree-related programs in response to government requests.”
