Park Hee-young, Yongsan District Mayor, Visits Disaster Situation Room to Urge Damage Prevention

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, visited the disaster situation room on the 6th floor of the district office at 8:30 AM on the 14th to check the flood preparedness status and encourage the workers on duty.

Mayor Park received reports from the Head of the Flood Control Division on the current rainfall situation and forecast, control of the Jamsu Bridge, operation of rainwater pumping stations, and status of civil complaint handling, then urged systematic management of flood-prone areas.

The district issued Level 1 emergency duty before the heavy rain advisory was issued at 9:30 AM on the 13th. A total of 216 personnel from the disaster situation room, operational departments, pumping stations, resident centers, underpasses, private contractors, and care teams immediately began damage prevention efforts.

From 9 PM on the 13th, one hour before the heavy rain warning was issued, the workforce was increased to 296, and Level 2 emergency duty was declared.

Mayor Park said, “Thanks to your efforts in flood prevention, despite the heavy rain overnight, there was no major damage,” and urged special attention to the 13 rainwater pumping stations and monitoring of flood-prone areas.

Since July this year, the district has designated four zones for intensive management of rainwater inlets and assigned 12 dedicated workers who patrol these zones at least three times a week. During patrols, any rainwater inlets clogged with various sediments are immediately dredged.

To address the issue of cigarette butts illegally discarded, which obstruct rainwater drainage, a cigarette butt collection reward system has been in place since February, and last week, dedicated cigarette butt collection bins were installed at 11 street locations.
